Alice Maritana Schnabel was the fifth of thirteen children born to parents Anna Elizabeth Anderson and William Jacob Schnabel, Sr. Alice grew up in the Hopkins, MN area, on a farm near Shady Oak Road. She was a very shy woman who met her husband Leslie when he knocked on her front door and asked to ‘see’ her! He had noticed her around town. They married on July 5, 1930 and had three daughters: Joan Lois Johnson, Gloria June Johnson and Carolyn Gail Johnson.
