Bonnie Burton has been interested in genealogy most of her life, but only recently has had time to research and write about her family history in an organized way. One of her first challenges as a novice genealogist was documenting her ancestors sufficiently to be accepted as a member of the Daughters of American Revolution (D.A.R). Her paternal Grandmother Mae Marybelle Burton’s ancestors were traced back to a Gilbert Adams who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
Burton’s published article “What’s in a Name”, the story of her maternal Great-Grandmother Christine Kingstrom Johnson, is one of her first efforts writing about genealogical research. It was honored with the Family History Writing Award in the problem solving category from the Minnesota Genealogical Society.
She developed the family blog/website runsinthefamilyblog.com to share some research, documents and stories with family members and friends, and to foster interest in genealogy. Family guest authors and their stories are treasured and welcomed!
Burton is a member of the National Genealogical Society, the Minnesota Genealogical Society, and the Swedish Genealogical Society of Minnesota. She is also a volunteer proofreader for the Minnesota Genealogist quarterly journal. Burton is a retired finance professional who enjoys writing, beekeeping, and competition ballroom dancing with her husband.
